The official ball of the US Open, in its Extra Duty felt built for hard courts — pressurised, ITF-approved, and about as close to a known reference point as a tennis ball gets.
What the sources agree on
Extra Duty felt is thicker and more durable than Regular Duty, the standard recommendation for hard courts specifically because the abrasive surface wears felt down faster than clay or indoor courts do — a well-established, non-controversial pairing, not a marketing claim. As the tournament's official ball, it's also produced to ITF specification for pressure, size and bounce, about the closest thing to a guaranteed baseline consistency a can of balls can offer.
Where they disagree
What we can't speak to yet is how this specific batch performs over its playable life — pressurised balls lose bounce as internal pressure drops with use, and how many sets a can stays 'fresh' varies by storage, altitude and how hard it's hit. We haven't run our own durability test on this can.
