Roy Emerson won 12 Grand Slam singles titles — a men's record that stood for more than three decades until Pete Sampras surpassed it in 2000 — plus a further 16 major doubles titles. Part of Australia's dominant Davis Cup teams of the 1950s and 60s, he is one of the very few multiple-major champions to have never lost a Grand Slam singles final he reached.
