Guillermo Vilas won 4 Grand Slam singles titles, including two French Open crowns (1977, 1979), and in 1977 put together one of the great single seasons in tennis history, winning 16 titles and one of the longest match-winning streaks the sport has seen. A prolific clay-court player, he was Argentina's first true tennis superstar.
