Every racquet in the catalogue carries a recommended tension range, and the ranges are not the same width. The Head Radical MP 2025 is published at 21–25 kg — four kilos. The Yonex VCORE 98 and EZONE 98 are published at 20–27 kg — seven. The Wilson Blade 98 16×19 v10 sits at 22–26 kg.
Those windows are structural limits set by the manufacturer, not advice about where in the window you should be. Stringing below the lower figure risks the frame; stringing above the upper figure risks the frame and the string. Everything between the two is your decision, and it changes the racquet more than most upgrades do.
The rule of thumb worth keeping: lower tension gives depth and comfort and costs precision; higher tension gives control and costs power and arm comfort. A kilo either way is a change you will feel by the third game.
A wider published range is not a better racquet — it is a frame the manufacturer is confident will hold across more settings, which mostly tells you about the layup. Read it as room to experiment, not as a claim about quality.
Our tension calculator proposes a starting number inside the published range from the frame, the string type and how you play, and shows the working rather than just the answer. Start there, then move a kilo at a time.
